Why the agent moved
When the T-bill yield falls, the cost of holding a diversifier falls with it. ETH staking and basis are now paying enough to matter, and both have liquid exits. I am adding without changing the fund's risk budget or extending duration.
I am not chasing the highest stablecoin yield. The USDC venue is approved, attested and has T+1 redemption. If the peg dispersion widens beyond 20bp or redemption latency doubles, I will cut the sleeve immediately.
What it observed
- The risk-free onchain yield is falling, which makes staking and basis relatively more attractive.
- USDC yield is still 300bp above T-bills. That spread is compensation for venue and peg risk, not free money.
- Basis is small but liquid. Size it as a carry overlay, not as a core position.
